Cycling trip on the Danube from Vienna to Budapest

The Danube Valley by bike is an exceptional route for cyclists. Between Vienna and Budapest, you are on Eurovelo 6, a fully marked route with wide cycle paths. It is a unique opportunity to admire the landscapes around this majestic river and to discover the historical and cultural heritages of Austria, Hungary and Slovakia.

Highlights of the stay :

  • The panoramas on the river
  • the Eurovelo 6
  • Vienna, Bratislava and Budapest
  • Historical and cultural heritage of 3 countries.

Day 1 - Arrival in Vienna

Arrival in Vienna, Installation at the hotel and handling of the bikes. Parking is possible in Vienne in a car park near the hotel (state when booking).
Overnight in Vienna.

Day 2 - From Vienna to Bratislava - 68 km

Take the cycle path along the Danube from Vienna to Hainburg to Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia, via Wolfsthal.
Bratislava is on the border between three countries: Hungary, Austria and the Czech Republic. Discover the very eclectic, medieval, art nouveau museums, theaters and monuments and the Baroque palaces influenced by several cultures over the centuries. Bratislava is also an important river port on the Danube.
Overnight in Bratislava. Take advantage of the evening to visit the city.

Day 3 - From Bratislava to Mosonmagyaróvár - 50 km

The Danube cycle path takes you from Bratislava to Hungary. You will pass through typical villages by taking small country roads away from car traffic. Your cycling stopover ends in the town of Mosonmagyaróvár, often called Móvár by the locals and given the difficulty of pronouncing this name, we are delighted.
Overnight in Mosonmagyaróvár.

Day 4 - From Mosonmagyaróvár to GyÅ‘r - 45 km

You cycle through the magnificent landscapes of "Little Alföld" to Györ, one of the most important towns in Lower Hungary, with a prestigious historic center. Former military camp in the Empire, then Turkish, then Austrian, this city has a rich history to tell.
Overnight in Györ.

Day 5 - From Györ to Komárom - 64 km

A stage through a green landscape which undulates to the rhythm of small hills, while driving near the Raba river you follow the border between Hungary and Slovakia. Back on the cycle path along the Danube, you pass the small baroque town of Cicov then Zlatna the Slovak and Hungarian town.
Overnight in Komarom.

Day 6 - From Komárom to Visegrad - 69 km

Driving along the banks of the Slovak Danube, you will pass through a flat region dotted with small farming villages to Esztergom. This route crosses the mountainous region of the "Gerecse" chain along the river. In Esztergom, also called Hungarian Rome, nestled in the hollow of the mountain, you can admire the imposing cathedral and its castle museum.
Overnight in Sturovo (or Visegrad depending on availability).

Day 7 - From Visegrad to Budapest - 69 km

From Esztergom you cycle to the city of King Visegrad located in the "knee" of the Danube. You can continue by bicycle to Budapest or take the ferry  to Szentendre Island. Then from the island, continue to the village of Szentendre to visit its ecomuseum and cross its typical alleys. It is also possible to take a train. Arrival in Budapest and return of the rented bikes.
Overnight in Budapest.

Day 8 - Budapest to Vienna - 25/45

End of the cycling trip on the Danube after breakfast. You can take advantage of this last day to admire the capital of Hungary and why not book an extra night! Return to Vienna by bus or train depending on the dates.
