Le Marais Poitevin by bike

The origines of la Bicyclette Verte

Our experience :

"Quand on partait de bon matin, quand on partait par les chemins, A bicycletteee.."

Yes this is what we did this July 10 of the year 1986, it was here in this village of Arçais. The bike path that passes in front of our 36 is the same and if you go west you can go very far. Beautiful story that continues dear friends, a great experience that we put at your service.

Come see us, we'll show you.

All started here for La Bicyclette Verte

Initially the company began organizing bike trips in 1990. In first in this Marais, then elsewhere in France and finally in Europe. Today 72 destinations are offered in a large part of Europe.

The Poitevin Marsh

It covers about 100,000 hectares, and straddles three departments (Vendée, Deux-Sèvres and Charente-Maritime) and two regions (Pays de la Loire and Poitou-Charentes).

The space gained over the ocean over time has gradually filled with alluvium of marine origin (bri) or fluvial. The result is a large flat expanse, whose altitude is at an intermediate level between that of high tides and low tides.

The dried marshes cover an area of about 47,000 hectares. The wet marshes (the westernmost part of which is called the Green Venice) cover an area of about 29,000 hectares. While intermediate swamps (which means they are imperfectly desiccated) account for about 19,000 hectares.
