Giethoorn comes from the Dutch word « geitenhoorns », that makes reference to wild goats' horns found in this area by peat workers. Giethoorn is a lake village built in the middle of  Weerribben National Park where traffic is very limited

Giethoorn is also called the Northern Venice, with its characteristic channels and its river tourism. It is a beautiful region for a bike tour. In this area, the inhabitants still move by boat.

If you get there in the morning, you may ride a first loop route along the canal toward Noordeinde and the picturesque village of Dwarsgracht. The way back passes by Beulakerwijde Park.
