Salzburg and its lakes: one of Austria's most beautiful cycling destinations

This tour will introduce you to the beauty of the “Salzkammergut”, once the summer residence of the Austrian imperial family. The region is also famous for being the setting of the Oscar-winning film "The Sound of Music" (1965). It is one of Austria's most charming destinations: blue lakes, imposing mountains, lush green meadows and forests create a fairytale landscape. The pristine lakes Mondsee, Attersee, Traunsee, and Wolfgangsee are the most renowned in this region.

Day 1: Arrival in Salzburg
Individual arrival in Salzburg. Take some time to stroll through the charming old town of this fascinating cultural metropolis.

Day 2: From Salzburg to Lake Wolfgang (50 km)
Pick up rental bikes (if booked). Begin the day with a visit to the birthplace of world-renowned classical composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Cycle along the base of the impressive Drachenwand mountain before reaching the beautiful Lake Mondsee. Enjoy the slope to Sankt Gilgen and end the day with a boat ride on Wolfgangsee (comfort version and deluxe version).

Day 3: From Lake Wolfgang to Lake Traunsee (40 km)
After a relaxing boat trip across Lake Wolfgang, cycle to the former imperial village of Bad Ischl , where you can follow in the footsteps of Emperor Franz Joseph and Empress Sisi. A stop at the famous "Zauner" pastry shop is a must. Along the Traunsee River, continue your ride to Traunkirchen or Altmünster.

Day 4: From Lake Traunsee to Lake Attersee (40 km)
Lake Traunsee, reminiscent of a fjord, lies between Traunstein and the surrounding mountains. The ceramics town of Gmunden awaits you on today’s cycling stage. Take the time to visit the Orth Castle and do not miss the beautiful lakeside promenade before crossing the Aurachtal valley towards Lake Attersee. Literature enthusiasts may wish to make a detour to Thomas Bernhard’s house in Ohlsdorf before reaching today's destination.

Day 5: From Lake Attersee to Lake Mondsee (35 km)
Ride along the clear blue shores of Lake Attersee to Unterach. After 2 km through a narrow valley, you’ll discover the legendary Lake Mondsee. Pedal along the northern shore to the picturesque town of the lake. Enjoy the many facilities available in the Salzkammergut.

Day 6: From Lake Mondsee to the Trumer Lakes Region (45 km)
Today's route peacefully takes you through Mondseeland, passing by the natural Irrsee Lake. You arrive at your destination in the afternoon. If you are a beer lover, take time to visit the Trumer brewery!
Overnight in the Trumer Lakes Region.
Day 7: From the Trumer Lakes Region to Salzburg (45 km)
On this final cycling stage, enjoy the beauty of untouched nature all the way to Salzburg. Refresh one last time at one of the many natural swimming spots along the way.

End of the tour after breakfast. You can also extend your stay by booking an extra night.
