Danube bike cruise between Passau and Budapest on the Vivienne

 

 

The Eurovelo 6 cycle route on the Danube is one of the most popular cycle trips. Embark on an unforgettable bike cruise on the Vivienne between Passau and Budapest. Discover 3 countries through breathtaking landscapes between Vienna, Bratislava and Budapest by bike and boat.

Day 1: Passau
 
Boarding time at 4:00 pm in Passau, a city located at the confluence of three rivers. Stroll through the historic center and admire the largest Catholic church organ in the world in the cathedral. At 6 pm, the ship sets sail.


 
Day 2: Engelhartszell - Aschach . 42 km
 
The stage starts with a tour on one of the most beautiful sections of the Danube. On your way you will meet small villages and cider cellars. In the only Trappist monastery of Austria in Engelhartszell you can taste delicious cheeses and liqueurs. The famous "Schlogener View" offers a breathtaking view of the surrounding Austrian countryside. The Vivienne awaits you at the charming market of Aschach at the end of your bike tour.


 
Day 3: Devin - Bratislava, 18 - 43 km
 
You cycle along the former Iron Curtain and cross the Green Line before reaching the imposing Imperial Palace of Hof and its beautiful terraced gardens. Follow the bike path through the "vegetable garden" of Austria towards Bratislava, on the slopes of the Little Carpathians.


 
Day 4: Budapest / Szentendre, 54 km or free day

 

The entrance to Budapest, capital of Hungary, is exceptional. You will have several possibilities this day. You can visit the city and discover its most beautiful spots on a bus or bike tour (with or without a guide) or discover the city of Szentendre with its Mediterranean atmosphere and lively art scenes. In the evening, you can attend a night show of traditional music and dance (optional).


 
Day 5: Danube Bend - Esztergom, 43 km

 
The wooded hills of Pilis, Visegrad and Börzsöny and the Danube River offer a beautiful landscape. Discover the idyllic island of Szentendre and pass by the baroque village of Vac (influenced by the architects of the Austrian Empress Maria Theresia) before reaching the city of Esztergom and its beautiful basilica, the largest Hungarian Catholic church.


 
Day 6: Vienna - free day

 

This day allows you to leisurely visit Vienna and its main attractions during a city tour by bike or by bus (optional). You will be able to admire the most famous architecture of the city such as St. Stephens Cathedral, the beautiful Ring Boulevard, the Opera House, the Burgtheater, the City Hall, and also the colorful Hundertwasserhaus. Relax in one of Vienna's famous cafés or attend a classical concert (optional) in one of Vienna's most famous palaces.


 
Day 7: Wachau / Krems - Melk, approx. 37 km

 

Your last day of cycling along the Danube will be memorable! An imposing ruin looms over the small baroque town of Durnstein, while the blue spire of the monastery church is the landmark of the renowned Wachau. Amongst famous towns and villages, vineyards and castles, this hilly landscape will charm you. 
 
In WeiBenkirchen (wine tasting optional) you can see wine cellars along the bike path. The crew will offer you a show to close the trip.


 
Day 8: Passau
 
Enjoy the first rays of sunshine and the peaceful silence of the Danube Valley on the deck. Your bike and boat trip on the Danube ends around 11:00 am. 
 
We recommend that you schedule your connections from 12:00 onwards.

On board you meet an international community of all ages, men, women, singles and couples with children.

On board, the captain and his crew. They are responsible for the smooth running of the holidays (on the boat) and take the boat from stage to stage. The cook prepares the meals.
