Danube cruise between Passau and Vienna

The Danube by bike on Eurovelo 6 is one of the most successful and popular routes for cycle tourists. The valleys and their landscape, the superb vineyards and the expanses of the Hungarian plains will leave you with lasting memories of this cruise. You can contemplate and visit abbeys, castles and palaces as well as cities like Vienna or Linz.

Day 1: Passau

Individual arrival in Passau by train or car and transfer from our local correspondent's private car park or from Passau's main station to the Primadonna boat, at around 16:30 (if booked).  During dinner, you will enjoy a welcome briefing with the week's programme.
 

Day 2: Schlögen to Linz - 56 km

Collection of hire bikes. Your first cycle tour on the Danube begins with the « Schlögener Schlinge ». The Schlögen loop shows the most beautiful sides of the Danube. Don’t miss the “Schlögener Blick” viewpoint for a glimpse of this wonderful part of the lake. You reach Ottensheim and then the dynamic and culturally rich city of Linz. You can visit the historic city centre, Hauptsatz square and Linz Cathedral.

Day 3: Linz to Grein - 57 km

Disembark and take the cycle path that leads directly into the countryside. Your cycle tour takes you through magnificent countryside to Lake Pleschinger See. You can admire the castles of Pragstein, Wallsee and Clam (visit included). The Primadonna awaits you in the charming baroque town of Grein, which you can visit in the evening.

Day 4: From Grein to Spitz (69 km)
Today you cycle through the incredible Wachau Valley. Discover the imposing Melk Abbey, which overlooks the Danube from its perch. Beautiful hillside vineyards accompany you throughout this stage, continuing to the beautiful village of Spitz. Enjoy a chance to taste delicious local wines on the way at a tyical cellar (Heuriger).

Day 5: Loop through the Wachau Valley via Mautern and Arnsdorf (40 km)
This stage takes you back to the remarkable Wachau Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its landscapes. After your loop, the boat will take you to the Austrian capital, Vienna. There, enjoy a walking tour (approximately 20 minutes) to a Viennese winery.

Day 6: Vienna by Bike (27 km)
Several options are available for this day:

• Vienna by bike, a 27 km route mostly outside heavy traffic areas.
• Optional: Visit to the Museum of Art History
• Optional: Guided bike or bus tour of Vienna
• 54 km route through the Danube floodplains (return by train to Vienna - allow 70 minutes and cost approximately €15)

Day 7: From Tulln to Spitz (68 km)
You'll return to the Wachau Valley to visit, among other things, the charming villages of Krems and Dürnstein. Just follow the bike path.

Day 8: Passau
Disembark in Passau before 10:00 a.m. Transfer from the boat to our local correspondent's office or to Passau train station.

The participants :

On board you meet an international community of all ages, men, women, singles and couples with children.

Support :

Self-guided tour, daily discussions with an on-board guide about the next day's route. English or German language
On board, the captain and his crew. They are responsible for the smooth running of the holidays (on the boat) and take the boat from stage to stage. The cook prepares the meals.

Meals :

• Breakfasts: On the boat, you will find a buffet breakfast offering hot and cold dishes.
• Lunches: On the boat = 3 courses offered // By bike = picnic provided.
• Snack: After the daily route you will find, when you arrive on the boat, various drinks, such as tea and coffee.

The bike :

The rental bike is a7-speed or 21 gears hybrid bike or an ebike (7 gears).

If you take your own bike, it cannot be insured against theft by our company. You will need to do the necessary with your usual insurer. Don't forget your anti-theft device!

• By car: E56 motorway to Passau
• By plane: International airport in Vienna

Your vehicle:

Possibility of parking in a private car park in Passau, unguarded and closed (upon reservation) - Transfer included from the car park to the boat.
