The Lena Maria - boat cruise

After several years of working on a ship, Eelke and his wife, Carlien, decided it was time for a new adventure. They took over the canal barge Lena Maria, which can accommodate up to 24 passengers. Eelke notes, “The Lena Maria is large enough to offer high-quality accommodations yet small enough to maintain an intimate atmosphere. This way, guests quickly connect with each other on board.

Transformation of the Lena Maria

Since Carlien and Eelke acquired the Lena Maria, the barge has been completely transformed. Eelke explains, “The interior used to be brown and white. We’ve modernized it, brightened it up, added a cozy floor, and installed a bar. These changes have made the restaurant and lounge area more open and much cozier. I’m always looking for ways to improve things further. Renovating ships is a passion of mine,” he adds with a laugh.

Exploring Charming Destinations The compact size of the Lena Maria offers another advantage, according to Eelke. “We can navigate narrow canals and dock in smaller, charming harbors. This brings guests closer to the scenery and allows us to explore areas that aren’t crowded with tourists.”

Description of the cabins

The Lena Maria offers twelve spacious twin cabins (10.5 m² – 113 sq. ft.) with two separate beds. Each cabin includes a private shower, toilet, and basin. The windows can be opened, and the cabins feature individually controlled air conditioning, ventilation, and central heating. Additionally, each cabin is equipped with a safe and a hair dryer. During unguided trips, 2 single cabins (9 m²) are also available, each with one bed and the same amenities as the twin cabins.

Description of the ship

On the upper deck of the Lena Maria, there is a cozy lounge with a bar and dining area. Wi-Fi is available throughout the barge. The Lena Maria also boasts a beautiful sundeck where guests can enjoy a drink. This is the perfect spot to take in the scenery, whether during a pleasant evening or while cruising.
