Holland bike, Amsterdam city tour 4days

Day 1 - Arrival in Amsterdam. Possible tour of 19 km to Oudekerk to the Amstel
Day 2 - 48 km possible tour to Broek in Waterland
Day 3 - 47 km possible tour to Muiden
Day 4 - End of the tour after breakfast

Cycling is probably more popular in Amsterdam than in any other city in the world. The narrow streets and canals of the 17th century make it an ideal means of transport. You can also cycle out the city along cycle paths and through parks to find yourself in a seren, water-rich landscape dotted with pretty historic villages such as Broek in Waterland, Muiden and Oudekerk aan de Amstel. Your hotel in the centre of Amsterdam, is within walking distance of Museumplein, home to the Rijkmuseum, Stedelijk Museum and Van Gogh Museum.

All the possible routes / tours :

Route A :
You can cycle this short route on the day you arrive. Cycle along the Amstel river to the picuresque old village of Oudekerk aan de Amstel. The famous painter Rembrandt loved to walk along the river banks here, and made many drawings and etchings of Amstelland. Cycle back to Amsterdam on the other side of the river past the country villas built by wealthy residents of Amsterdam in the 17th and 18th centuries.

Route B :
Cycle through the city centre to the IJ. Behind Central Station, take a ferry across this former estuary. On the other side of the IJ. you will leave the city and arrive in Waterland, with its peat meadows rich in bird life, ancient canals and watercourses. Cycle through the villages of Durgerdam and Uitdam, which were once on the shores of the Zuiderzee, to Broek in Waterland. All the houses in this beautiful village are timber-framed due to the weak sub-oil, and are mostly painted in pastel colours. Cycle backPour rentrer à Amsterdam vous empruntez  into Amsterdam along the Noordhollands Kanaal. This route will take you back to your hotel, passing old neighbourhoods and a host of historic buildings on the way.

Route C :
Cycle along the banks of the rivers Amstel and Waver through the magnificent peat polder to reach the fortified town of Weesp. Follow the meandering river Vecht until you arrive in Muiden, where you can also see the medieval castle of Muiderslot. Following the banks of the Ijmeer (wich used to be Zuiderzee) cycle to Ijburg, the newest district of Amsterdam, which is built on artificial islands. Cross the Amsterdam-Rijnkanaal to cycle back into the city centre through architecturally interesting late 19th century neighbourhoods.

Route D :
Cycle through parks and along the harbour of Amsterdam to Haarlem.
The canal surrounded historical city of Haarlem is characterized by many old streets and monuments from the 16th century all the way up to the 19th century. Cycle back to Amsterdam along the Nieuwe Meer.

Route E :
Take the ferry across the IJ. Head through the natureand recreational area Twiske toward the Zaanstreek (Zaan area), with it's traditionnal wooden houses and a lot of windmills. In the ootdoor attractin the Zaanse Schans are several museums, turning windmills, old Dutch crafts and Zannse houses to visit.
