The Danube valley by bike, from Passau to Vienna

The Danube Valley is an exceptional route for cyclists. Between Passau and Vienna, you are on Eurovelo 6, a fully marked European cycle route with wide cycle paths. Take the time to admire the landscapes around this majestic river and learn about the historical and cultural heritages of Austria and Germany.

Day 1 - Arrival in Passau
Individual arrival in Passau. Delivery of travel book and bikes (if reserved).
Take the opportunity to discover the city, its cathedral and its castle. It is recommended to take a boat trip (runs every day, every 30 minutes, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. for approx. € 10.00 per person payable locally).
Overnight in Passau.
2nd day - Schlögen - Wesenufer - 40 km
After enjoying the beauty of Passau, set out to explore the fabulous Danube Valley. Only a few kilometers of departmental roads and you will enjoy the cycle path that will take you on an unforgettable journey along the river, still far from all car traffic to the famous Danube loop of Schlögener. Passing Obernzell and Engelhartszell, you cycle along the river.
Overnight in Schlögen.
3rd day - From Schlögen to Linz - 54 km
you continue your bike ride on Eurovelo 6 on old towpaths. You will appreciate the villages of Aschbach and Ottensheim, the old fish markets, and their ancient houses. On both sides of the Danube, enormous fortified castles and monasteries are to be visited. Your stage ends in Linz, the capital of Upper Austria.

4th day - From Linz to Grein or Ardagger - 63 km
The Danube valley widens, giving way to the straightness of cultivated fields. The valley narrows again before reaching Grein located on the edge of the Strudengau. The bottleneck formed by this narrowing was very much feared by the sailors. You will have the opportunity to stroll through this very picturesque town. Very nice visit, in particular the town hall and its municipal theater.
Overnight in Grein or Bad Kreuzen.
5th day - From Grein or Ardagger to Marbach or Maria Taferl - 49 km
While cycling along the Danube, this stage will take you through the Nibelungengau. A visit to the Benedictine Abbey, built on a rock overlooking the banks of the river, is a must.

6th day - From Marbach or Maria Taferl to Krems or Traismauer - 47/54 Km
Discover a new aspect of this wonderful cycling route through the vineyards. You have to deviate a bit from the Danube to appreciate the local wine. You then pass through the villages of Spitz, Weißenkirchen to Krems or Traismauer.
Overnight in Krems or Traismauer.
7th day - From Krems or Traismauer to Vienna - 52 km by bike and 21 km by train
Via the Roman city of Tulln you reach Höflein. Vienna offers you many prestigious monuments, a city steeped in history, once the cultural capital of Europe, a city with many facets that shows its proximity to Hungary.
Overnight in Vienna.
8th day - Vienna back to Passau
End of your stay in the Danube Valley after breakfast. Return bus transfer to Passau (car park or station) and end of stay.
