Cycling route in Dordogne

 

 

Go on an adventure to discover Lot-et-Garonne and the Dordogne by bike ! These two departments are known for their good food, gastronomy, culture and friendliness. On the edge of the Garonne, Agen is a city where life is good. Discover typical medieval villages as well as fortified castles such as Monpazier, la Roque, Gageac and Sarlat classified as the most beautiful villages in France. For lovers of gastronomy, you can taste typical dishes of the region such as truffles, foie gras or duck confit.
You will be warmly welcomed every evening in *** or **** hotels or charming guest rooms.

Day 1 : Arrival in Agen


 
Arrival at your accommodation in Agen. You will be welcomed in a *** hotel.
Documentation on the region and a road book will be given to you with the details of your circuit. This pretty town, capital of the prune, offers a few visits, including the Museum of Fine Arts which presents five paintings by Goya (including the self-portrait), as well as other Spanish works from the 18th and 19th centuries. You will have the opportunity to enjoy the city center with its many shops, farmers and local products.

Day 2 : from the Garonne Valley to the Lot Valley
From Agen to Villeneuve sur Lot - 45 km


 
Take a stroll through pretty country roads to the medieval Bastide of Villeneuve sur Lot. You will have the opportunity to visit the Fois Gras museum, also take the opportunity to discover its manufacturing secrets! This walk will then take you to Penne d'Agenais, renowned for being one of the most beautiful villages in France.
Known for its vast and powerful bastides in the South West, Villeneuve-sur-Lot has a rich historical heritage that you must discover; Place Lafayette and its cutlery, the towers of Pujols and Paris, half-timbered houses from the 17th and 18th centuries, the Pont des Cieutat ...

Day 3 : From the Lot Valley to the Dordogne
From Villeneuve sur Lot to Monpazier - 50 km


 
Continue your bike ride towards Monflanquin, you will pedal through woods and forests and reach the fortress of Gavaudun. Take advantage of this moment to visit it. Then head to the town of Biron where you will have the opportunity to discover a fortified castle! Enjoy a friendly and warm end of the stage through authentic landscapes, forests, chestnut trees, oaks, stone walls ... to reach the Bastide de Monpazier, another village classified as "most beautiful in France". It is considered to be the most beautiful and as the "model" bastide among the 300 bastides in the south-west.

Day 4 : The Bastides of Périgord - 45 km
From Monpazier to Siorac
 


Your bike ride this time takes you on the Périgord “bastides route”. Departing from Monpazier, you will discover 13th century English bastides and remarkable religious buildings. You will also have the opportunity to admire the cloister of Cadouin, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You will end this walk in the Perigord Noir, the most famous and touristic site in the Dordogne, notably known for its castles, prehistoric sites, medieval villages and landscapes.

Day 5 : Castles and most beautiful villages in France - 45 km
From Siorac to Sarlat


 
Discover the Périgord noir and discover its most beautiful castles in the valley: Les Milandes, Castelnaud or Beynac! Pedal along the Dordogne to meet medieval villages like La Roque Gageac which will amaze you with its picturesque side. You will end your stage by bike in the gastronomic capital of Périgord
Black! Sarlat where you will have the chance to savor regional cuisine; foie gras, truffles and duck ... Its winding streets, its vaulted passages, its cathedral and its 15th and 16th century mansions will surprise you. The medieval city is also famous
to have the highest density of listed or registered historical monuments in the world!

Day 6  :


 
Departure after breakfast
Possibility of spending an additional night in Agen in a *** hotel or in Sarlat in a *** hotel.

Technicality:


Cycling: 45 to 50 km per day or 4 to 5 hours of cycling per day
Partly marked itinerary, useful roadbook and map reading.

 

Accommodation:


The hotels are 3 * and 4 * with rooms equipped with shower and toilet.

 

Additional nights:


An additional night is offered to you at the start and end of the tour.

 

Food :


- Breakfasts: generous (coffee, tea, chocolate, milk, butter, bread, jam, orange juice)
- Lunch: not included
- Dinner: not included.

 

The bike :


- Rental bicycle: If you rent a bicycle, it will be given to you on the day of your arrival at the 1st hotel. A security deposit will be requested.
At the end of the tour, you will have to leave this bike at the last accommodation and notify reception. We will take care of his return.
We offer specific equipment for children, seats, small hitched bikes and trailers.

- Personal bike: We do not recommend bikes with small tires. Hybrid bikes and mountain bikes are excellent. Remember to check your bicycle before setting off.
At the end of the tour, you will need to take care of your own bicycle. If you have rented a bicycle, it will be picked up at the hotel.

 

Assistance:


- Assistance in the event of breakdown (except punctures for which we do not intervene)
- In case of bad weather or if you cannot ride a bike for a day, possibility of a direct journey to the next stage.


Luggage:


They are transported by a courier or by our team and limited to one piece of luggage per person (max. 20 kg).

 

Roadbook :


We will provide you with detailed maps and a description of the routes when you arrive at the first hotel. We will also give you vouchers for hotels and restaurants as well as luggage tags.

 

Transport :


- By train: SNCF TGV to Agen in around 3 hours from Montparnasse station. For more information on timetables, contact SNCF.
- By road: A10 and A62 / E72 motorways, exit 7. Paris is 700 km from Agen.

 

Your car :


A parking space is available at the first hotel, payable locally.
