Tour of the Little Belt - Cycling holidays Denmark

Explore the Jutland peninsula by bike and experience the richness of Danish culture, from Sønderborg Castle to the Kolding Fjord. Along the way, enjoy the charm of the picturesque villages of Åbenrå and Christiansfeld, as well as architectural treasures such as Sandbjerg Castle. Soak up the medieval atmosphere of Haderslev, savour the easy-going lifestyle in Middelfart and, with a bit of luck, spot porpoises near Strib. Let yourself be surprised by the rolling scenery of the “Funen Alps”. Finish in Odense, the city of Hans Christian Andersen, before returning to Sønderborg to bring this unforgettable journey to a close.

Highlights of this cycling holiday in Denmark:

  • Søndeborg and the island of Als
  • Villages of Åbenrå, Haderslev and Middelfart
  • Castles of Sandbjerg, Koldinghus and Søndeborg
  • Odense, a city with a unique atmosphere
  • The "Funen Alps" and its hills with preserved nature

Day 1: arrival in Sønderborg

This cycling tour in Denmark begins in the Flensburg Fjord, not far from Germany. Visit Søndeborg Castle, the oldest royal castle in the Jutland region built on the water.

Overnight in Sønderborg.

Day 2: from Sønderborg to Åbenrå or Rodekro (35 km)

This first cycling stage takes you gently through forests and wild fields to the Sundeved peninsula. Take a detour to Sandbjerg Castle, one of the most beautiful palaces in southern Jutland. You end in Åbenrå, a charming village with its picturesque little houses and traditional craftsmen.

Overnight in Åbenrå or Rodekro.

Day 3: from Åbenrå or Rodekro to Christiansfeld (40 / 70 km)

Today, make a first stop in Haderslev, a magnificent medieval city with many lively cafés. Leave your bike to walk around and soak up the atmosphere of the city. Back on the saddle towards Christiansfeld, a pretty historic village in Jutland.

Overnight in Christiansfeld.

Day 4: from Christiansfeld to Middelfart (45 / 65 km)

You leave Christiansfeld through the wooded region of Kolding. You arrive at the old royal castle of Koldinghus, which you can see from afar thanks to its imposing tower. It is by passing through the Kolding Fjord that you cross the Little Belt before reaching your stopover for the night, Middelfart.

Overniht in Middelfart.

Day 5: from Middelfart to Odense (55 / 65 km)

Before leaving Middelfart, take the time to visit the Henner Friisers Hus museum, which is considered one of the most beautiful half-timbered houses in Denmark. The route takes you along the coast to Strib and its charming little lighthouse. Possibility of making a stop at the beach where, with a bit of luck, you can see porpoises. Continue your escapade through idyllic landscapes to Odense, the 3rd largest city in the country.

Overnight in Middelfart.

Note: to shorten the stage by 7 km, take Route 6 from Middelfart to Odense.

Day 6: from Odense to Fåborg (50 km)

It is along the Odense Å river that you leave the city. We advise you to make a stop at Brobyværk. After this village, you enter in the "Funen Alps", a beautiful hilly nature reserve that leads you to Fåborg.

Overnight in Fåborg.

Day 7: from Fåborg to Sønderborg (45 / 35 km + ferry ride)

Fåborg is one of the oldest cities in Denmark. With its narrow streets and cobbled center, it is an idyllic village where it is good to walk. Cycle to Bøjden where you embark for the island of Als. Continue by bike via the beautiful harbor city of Høruphav, to Sønderborg.

Overnight in Sønderborg.

Day 8: Sønderborg

After breakfast, end of your cycling holiday in Denmark. Extend your stay with one or more additional nights.
