Danube Cruise by Bike, Between Passau and Vienna on the Lisabelle

The Danube by bike and boat is quite an experience. Aboard the Lisabelle, discover one of the most beautiful sections of the Danube by bike and along the EuroVelo 6 route. Between Passau and Vienna, the Wachau Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and its charming villages await you. Visit remarkable heritage sites, cycle through the wonderful bends of the Danube and enjoy the beautiful hillside vineyards.

Day 1: Arrival in Passau
Boarding is expected between 4:00 PM and 5:00 PM, but we recommend arriving a little bit earlier to enjoy Passau. Stroll through the Baroque old town and wander through the charming narrow streets. Visit the imposing cathedral, which houses the largest church organ in the world! At the end of the day, the captain will take you on a cruise, leaving Passau behind you in the setting sun as the sun sets.
Day 2: From Engelhartszell to Brandstatt (45 km)
This first day in the Danube Valley by bike begins through forests and meadows. Breathe in the fresh air as you follow the towpath, passing through peaceful villages. Along the way, you'll encounter rustic but welcoming inns where the scent of grilled fish, a delicious local specialty, fills the air. Before arriving in Brandstatt, where the Lisabelle awaits you, enjoy the view from Schlögener Blick overlooking the Danube and its curves.
Day 3: From Brandstatt to Linz (24 km)
Get a breath of fresh country air on this second leg. Around midday, you'll reach Linz, the capital of Upper Austria. The afternoon is yours to discover all of Linz's treasures. With a guided walk, you'll visit Austria's largest church and the Pöstlingbergbahn, the tramway with the steepest gradient in the world. If you're a science and technology enthusiast, don't miss the Ars Electronica Center, an immersive museum dedicated to the technology.
Day 4: From Tulln to Vienna (31 km)
Today, head towards Vienna, the capital of Austria and an imperial city of many wonders. Along the way, you pass the magnificent Klosterneuburg Monastery, a detour worth taking. You can see its over 900-year-old dome from miles away. You continue to the village of Kahlenbergerdof and its taverns where you can taste local wines. After a stroll through the vineyards, you'll be rewarded with a beautiful panoramic view of Vienna.
Day 5: Vienna
Several options are available to enjoy Vienna:

- Hop on your bike to explore the city and its main sites, all within pedaling distance
The Ringstraße boulevard tales you on a journey back in time built on the site of what were once the old city walls. If you want to taste Vienna's delicious pastries, take a break in one of the many authentic cafés. To awaken all your senses, head to the Naschmarket. In the evening, you can enjoy a waltz and classical operetta concert in Schönbrunn Castle (optional).
Day 6: From Wachau/Krems to Melk (37 km)
An unforgettable day awaits you in the Wachau Valley. Begin with a visit to wine-growing villages, terraced vineyards, and apricot orchards. You'll then cycle towards remarkable villages: Dürnstein with its charming narrow streets and Spitz, one of the most famous wine-growing villages in the World Cultural Heritage Landscape. These are just two of the many reasons to appreciate this picturesque atmosphere.
Day 7: From Grein to Mauthausen (36 km)
Departing from the medieval town of Grein, the route takes you through the beautiful Strudengau region. Along the way, you'll see the romantic Clam Castle. You'll continue on to discover the surprising Celtic village of Mitterkirchen and the Mauthausen Memorial, a former World War II concentration camp.
Day 8: Passau
Enjoy your last breakfast on board in Passau. Disembarkation is scheduled between 11:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. Additional nights are possible.
