Star bike route around Lake Constance

Lake Constance by bike is an exceptional route to discover and this holiday in the stars gives you time to visit the city of Constance. The lake is located on the border between 3 countries: Germany, Austria and Switzerland. It is surrounded by picturesque towns and villages such as Güttingen, Stein Am Rhein and Gottmadingen. Enjoy an original and unique cycling experience around Lake Constance.

Day 1: Arrival in Constance

Installation in your hotel in Constance. The medieval old town has been preserved. Walk through the small streets of Niederburg, visit Münster Cathedral and admire "Imperia" on the harbor - a 9-meter-high statue that refers to a noble courtesan who lived in the city at the time of the Council of Constance.

Day 2: Constance - Meersburg - Lindau, approx. 50 km and return by boat

Today you take the ferry to Meersburg to Friedrichshafen. You follow the lake along the cycle path to Langenargen and through small villages like Wasserburg and Nonnenhorn or Lindau, the Bavarian metropolis on the lake. The historic city center is a popular destination for visitors. In the afternoon, a ferry takes you back to Constance.

Day 3: Day trip to the island of Mainau, approx. 15 km

You explore the "flower island" of Mainau. Bicycles are prohibited on the island: you just have to park at the entrance and access the island by the bridge. Countless flowers bloom here, tulips in spring, roses in summer and dahlias in autumn. The castle, the palm grove, the butterfly house, the arboretum and many other attractions are available to you during this pleasant day.

Day 4: Constance - Überlingen - Salem - Meersburg - Constance, approx. 55 km / trip by boat and ferry

In Wallhausen, a boat takes you to Überlingen on the other side of the lake. Still along the lake, you continue to the abbey church of Birnau, where you enjoy a magnificent view of the lake. Along the Prälatenweg you make a pleasant journey to Salem and its castle. You can also visit Affenberg (the hill of the monkeys) with more than 200 semi-wild Berber monkeys! From Meersburg take the ferry to Constance.

Day 5: Constance - Reichenau Island - Stein am Rhein - Constance, approx. 50 km / boat trip

Your destination today is the island of Reichenau, a World Heritage Site since 2001. A boat takes you to the Höri peninsula, to Gaienhofen where you can visit the Hermann-Hesse house. Next, cycle along the Höri Peninsula via Hemmenhofen where Otto Dix lived, to Stein am Rhein. Cross the Swiss border and its fishing villages to Constance.

Technicality:

- 30 to 60 km of hiking per day, or about 3 to 4 hours of cycling.

- Partly signposted route, map reading desired.

The bike :

- Rental bike: 21-speed VTC. It can be picked up from our correspondent in Constance.

 At the end of the tour, you will have to leave the rented bike at the hotel and notify reception.

- Personal bike: We do not recommend bikes with small tires. Hybrid bikes and mountain bikes are excellent. Remember to check your bicycle before setting off.

At the end of the circuit, you will have to take care of your bike.

Assistance:

Assistance in the event of breakdown (except punctures for which we do not intervene).

Luggage:

During the stay, they are transported by a courier or by our team and limited to one piece of luggage per person. (max. 20 kg)

The road book with the description of the routes is given to you by post or email before your departure. Our partner on site will give you the vouchers for hotels and restaurants as well as labels for luggage.

- By road: Bregenz is 260 km east of Strasbourg and 230 km from Mulhouse.
- By plane: Zurich Airport, Friedrichshafen, Stuttgart.

Possibility of parking with our local correspondent 40 € per week or free parking in town.
