Bike and boat route between Avignon and Aigues-Mortes, between Provence and the Camargue

 

 

Cycling and boat tour in the middle of the wild Camargue and the landscapes so dear to Van Gogh. Discover the Provençal villages, vineyards and lavender fields for an unforgettable cruise.


The highlights of the stay:

Day 1 - Avignon

 

Individual arrival and boarding from 6 p.m. in Avignon. The boat awaits you on the Quai de la Ligne next to the famous Pont Saint-Bénezet.


 
Day 2 - Avignon, round trip (30 km)

 

Today, cross the Ile de la Barthelasse to reach the other bank of the Rhône, and ride through the typical landscapes of the garrigue, between vineyards and orchards. Before heading back, visit Villeneuve Les Avignon, once known to be the city of the cardinals. In the afternoon, discovery of the historic center of Avignon.


 
Day 3 - Avignon - Aramon (40 km)

 

In the morning, sail to the town of Aramon, where you begin your cycle route to the best-preserved Roman aqueduct in Europe: the Pont du Gard, a spectacular work of art. Night in Aramon with a beautiful view of Mont Ventoux.


 
Day 4 - Aramon - Vallabrègues (35 km)

 

You start your day by sailing towards Vallabrègues, a pretty Provencal village on the banks of the Rhône. Along the country roads, you will arrive in Barbentane with its castle at the confluence of the Rhône and the Durance. You then cycle to the magnificent abbey of Saint Michel de Frigolet then to the medieval village of Boulbon. Night in Vallabrègues.


 
Day 5 - Vallabrègues - Arles (55 km)

 

This stage will take you to Saint Rémy de Provence, birthplace of Nostradamus. This village is also famous for welcoming Van Gogh when he was ill. You then head to the Alpilles, with Les-Baux-de-Provence, a village nestled in the rock itself. A landscape of limestone cliffs and olive trees accompanies your trip.


 
Day 6 - Arles - Aigues-Mortes (25 km)

 

Today, the whole morning is devoted to visiting Arles, the ancient capital of Gaul and its beautiful Roman ruins. You will have the opportunity to be greeted by a professional guide, who will accompany you to discover the jewels of the town. After lunch, you reach the Saint Gilles lock and from there you sail to Aigues Mortes where you spend the night.


 
Day 7 - Aigues Mortes, circuit (55 km)

 

By traversing the small country roads of Camargue between canals, lagoons and small villages you will reach in the afternoon the charming fishing village of Grau-du-Roi. Possibility of reaching the beach for a good swim.


 
Day 8 - Aigues Mortes

 

After breakfast, end of the tour.


Note: The program has been planned for navigation along the Rhône and the Rhône-Sète canal. For organizational reasons, weather conditions or provisions issued by local authorities, the itinerary may be subject to certain changes before and / or during the holidays. Flood and low water issues, as well as logistical hurdles such as officially ordered - not previously announced - repair work on locks or bridges may alter some daily stretches or overnight stays and may even require a bus transfer. These decisions are made only by the captain of the boat.

Bike cruise in Camargue and Provence from Aigues-Mortes

 

 

Day 1: Aigues Mortes

 

Individual arrival and boarding after 6 p.m. in Aigues Mortes, medieval city, former military and commercial port of the Mediterranean.


 
Day 2: Aigues Mortes, circuit (55 km)

 

Travel through the small country roads of the Camargue between canals, lagoons and small villages and you will be able to see the famous black bulls and white horses typical of this region, as well as the pink flamingos. In the afternoon, reach the charming fishing village of Grau-du-Roi. Possibility of reaching the beach to swim in the sea.


 
Day 3: Aigues Mortes - Arles (25 km)

 

You cruise for a few hours to Saint Gilles, then you cycle to Arles, known for the richness of its ancient and Roman heritage. The city is fascinating and full of hidden treasures. Getting lost in its little alleys will be like stepping into a Van Gogh painting. In the afternoon, you will be greeted by a professional guide, who will accompany you to the gems of the city.


 
Day 4: Arles - Vallabrègues (55 km)

 

It is a breathtaking stage, which takes you to the Alpilles, with the perched village of Baux-de-Provence then to Saint Rémy de Provence. A landscape of limestone cliffs and olive trees accompanies you on the journey. In the evening you moor in Vallabrègues, a pretty Provencal village on the banks of the Rhône.


 
Day 5: Vallabrègues - Aramon (35 km)

 

Along the country roads, you will arrive in Barbentane with its castle which is located at the confluence of the Rhône and the Durance. You will discover the magnificent abbey of Saint Michel de Frigolet and the medieval village of Boulbon. In the afternoon, sail to Aramon where you spend the night, you enjoy a beautiful view of Mont Ventoux.

Day 8: Avignon

 

After breakfast, end of your cycling and boat trip.

Participants :


On board, you will meet an international community of all ages, men, women, single or couples with children. We offer aboard these boats 20 to 26 places in cabins of 2 and 3 people.

 

Accompaniment :


People responsible for your bike and boat holidays are : 
On board, the captain and his mate. They are responsible for the smooth running of the vacation on the boat, and bring the boat from stage to stage. The cook prepares the meals.
Participants are accompanied by a guide. He will help you in the event of a breakdown, advise you on the route to follow and give you the necessary tourist information. He or she is multilingual.

 

Meals :


Breakfast : on board, you will find a substantial and dutch breakfast, worthy of a cyclist.
Lunch : after the breakfast, you will prepare by yourself a “lunch” (sandwich, fruit, snack, drinks).
Snack : after the daily route, you will find, when you arrive on the boat, various drinks such as tea and coffee prepared for your return, with a cake.
Dinner : at least three very good quality dishes. After dinner, you will have a choice of coffee and tea.
Other drinks, such as wine, beer, lemonade and mineral water, are not included but can be purchased on board at a reasonable price.

 

Bike :


21-speed bike available for hire. At the end of the tour, you will leave your rental bike on the boat.
The bike will be fitted with panniers as well as an anti-theft device, a container and a tire repair kit. There is no helmet on board.


If you take your own bike, it cannot be insured against theft by our company, you will have to make the necessary arrangements with your usual insurer. Do not forget your anti-theft. The return of your bike will be at your expense.
