Cycling trip between Royan and Biarritz, on the Vélodyssée

This cycle route is today one of the best known and most frequented in France and for good reasons! First of all, it is fully signposted, plus the ocean as a backdrop and crossing the beautiful towns of the Atlantic coast will leave you with unforgettable memories.

Day 1: Arrival in Arcachon
For your first bike ride, explore the city of Arcachon, with its stunning Second Empire villas and charming churches. Take some time to stroll along the harbor and enjoy the scenic views. You'll also have the chance to discover the entire Arcachon Bay, famous for its oysters and expansive beaches, framed by lush pine forests, making it a truly authentic and unique destination on France's coastline.

Day 2: From Arcachon to Biscarrosse - 32 km
Begin your cycling adventure towards the famous Dune du Pyla, a must-see stop during your journey! Take in the breathtaking views from the top of the dune. Then, ride through the pines of the Landes forest, where you'll experience a diverse range of landscapes, blending ocean, sea, and forest. The Vélodyssée route will then lead you into the Landes region, where you’ll discover the renowned surf resort of Biscarrosse. Immerse yourself in the lively atmosphere of the town, with its vibrant mix of kite surfing, terrace drinks, markets, amusement rides, and shows.

Day 3 : From Biscarrosse to Mimizan Plage - 54 km
Head inland and leave the coast behind as you immerse yourself in the tranquil blue of the ponds, replacing the sea. Explore the Cazaux and Sanguinet lakes, the two largest freshwater lakes in France! Then, continue along the Biscarrosse and Parentis lakes, enjoying their peaceful surroundings. This scenic bike route will guide you through the national forest, leading you back to the ocean at Mimizan (Mimizan Plage). Here, you’ll find several beautiful beaches stretching over ten kilometers.

Day 4 : from Mimizan Plage to Vieux Boucau (or Messanges) - 68 km (or 63 km)
Leave the seaside resort of Mimizan Plage and rejoin the Vélodyssée for a peaceful ride through the forest. This stage offers a serene and quiet experience, surrounded by the fragrant pine woods. Take occasional detours to explore the nearby beaches, such as Contis Plage, Saint-Girons Plage, and many others. Your journey will end in another charming seaside town in the Landes region. Let yourself be enchanted by the rural and coastal beauty of the Landes towns.
Overnight in Vieux Boucau (or Messanges).
Day 5 : From Vieux Boucau (or Messanges) to Biarritz - 57 km or (62 km)
For the final stage on the Vélodyssée, the route takes you deep into the heart of the forest, leading you to the iconic seaside resorts of Hossegor and Capbreton. Enjoy the expansive beaches before continuing through more urban terrain towards Boucau. Here, you’ll enter a new landscape along the Atlantic coast: the Basque Country! Pedal through Bayonne, famous for its annual Feria, which draws thousands of visitors each year. Finally, you’ll reach the renowned seaside town of Biarritz, known worldwide for its stunning beaches and vibrant atmosphere.

Day 6 : Biarritz
After breakfast, your tour comes to the end. You may choose to extend your stay with an additional night in Biarritz or Arcachon. Alternatively, you can book a private transfer or book a train ticket to Arcachon.
