Sailing Cruise from Copenhagen: Sweden and Denmark by Bike and Boat

Explore the Øresund by Bike and Sail: a unique experience aboard the Antigua

Dive into an exceptional journey combining sailing and cycling. Aboard the elegant sailing ship Antigua, discover the treasures of the towns and villages bordering the Øresund, the strait connecting Denmark and Sweden. This historic passage, once a nerve center of maritime trade, is dotted with picturesque ports and fascinating fortifications.

A captivating itinerary between Copenhagen and Malmö
Your adventure begins in the dynamic Danish capital, Copenhagen, and ends in Malmö, Sweden, two iconic metropolises for cycling enthusiasts. Between these two cities, you will discover wonders such as:

  • The Danish Riviera
  • The charming medieval cities of Helsingør, Landskrona and Køge
  • The island of Ven, a jewel nestled in the heart of the strait
  • The impressive cliffs of Stevns Klint (UNESCO)
  • The treasures of Malmö and Copenhagen

A formula combining comfort and freedom
Enjoy restful nights and breakfasts on board. A packed lunch is included for your days of cycling excursions, whose routes are carefully planned. You have the choice of pedaling at your own pace or joining guided group rides, supervised by local experts. For less experienced cyclists, electric bikes are available for rental.

If you prefer, take a day off and enjoy the navigation, where you can participate in the maneuvers or simply enjoy the view from the deck.

Day 1: Copenhagen
You'll be expected on board from 5:30 p.m. The Antigua is moored near the Opera House. Settle into your cabin before enjoying a welcome drink and dinner on board. After dinner, the first briefing of the week will take place. If you have reserved bikes, they will be distributed in the evening or the following morning.

Day 2: From Copenhagen to Helsingør (48 km)
Leave the ship and Copenhagen, passing the Little Mermaid and using quiet cycle paths. The route takes you along the banks of the Øresund River, but also inland through dense forests and traditional villages. About 10 km before arriving in Helsingør, don't go past the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art. You're just a few pedal strokes from the pretty city center of Helsingør, whose harbor is dominated by the imposing Kronborg Castle. A magnificent setting for an evening!

Day 3: Loop from Helsingør via Hornbaek and Esrum (28 to 45 km) | From Helsingør to Helsingborg
Today, the day begins on the "Danish Riviera." Cycle along its vast, fine sandy beaches to the village of Hornbaek and its charming harbor. Then, turn the handlebars inland to cycle through gently rolling landscapes to Esrum. The medieval Esrum Monastery, built on the shores of the lake, is worth a visit. You'll then return to Helsingør, surrounded by wheat fields and beautiful castles.

The shorter loop allows you to fully enjoy Helsingør in the afternoon.

During dinner, the boat crosses the strait to bring you to Helsingborg, Sweden. This is an opportunity for a short stroll through the city.

Day 4: From Helsingborg to Landskrona (28 km) | Ferry to Ven Island – Loop ride on the island (10 km)

In the morning, head to the coast of Scania County and the fortified town of Landskrona. Along the way, you'll pass beautiful beaches and visit the authentic fishing village of Borstahusen. Shortly before noon, you'll take the ferry to Ven Island. This small island is a true gem in the middle of the Øresund. With its artists, goldsmiths, charming cafes, a whisky distillery, and a 16th-century astronomical observatory, a journey back in time awaits you. As the island's port isn't large enough, you'll travel by Zodiac to the ship that dropped the anchor nearby.

Day 5: Sailing day to Køge or Rødvig

Today, you'll stay on board with the bikes. The captain will take you from Ven Island to the south of Zealand. Wind permitting, you'll get there by sail. Depending on the weather conditions, your destination will be Køge or Rødvig. At Køge, the boat remains in port, while at Rødvig, it drops anchor. The two sites are separated by the impressive limestone cliffs of Stevns Klint, which resemble those of Dover. This area is considered an International Dark Sky Reserve. Enjoy the evening to admire them.

Day 6: From Rødvig to Køge (30 km) or a loop from Køge (58 km)
The itinerary depends on where the boat spends the night. In either case, you'll cycle to the incredible cliffs of Stevns Klint. Visit the splendid village of Højerup and the church on the cliff. Meet the boat in Køge. During dinner, sail to Malmö!

Day 7: Cycling around Malmö (26 or 49 km)
Choose between a tour of Malmö and its surroundings or a longer loop to Lund, one of Sweden's oldest cities. In the evening, a festive dinner concludes your stay.

Day 8: Disembarkation in Malmö
Enjoy a final breakfast on board before leaving the yacht. Malmö train station is located nearby and offers convenient connections to Copenhagen Airport or the city center.

An adaptable and friendly adventure
The sailing program depends on the weather conditions and the decisions of the skipper, who will adjust the itinerary to ensure an optimal experience. Each crossing is an opportunity to fully enjoy the elements, and participation in the navigation remains optional.

Let yourself be seduced by the magic of this trip combining nature, culture and sport.

The three-masted Antigua has been sailing for over 50 years. The ship was built in the UK in 1957 as a fishing vessel. In 1993, the Antigua was converted into a typical three-masted cruise ship. The result is an elegant and very traditional vessel that also offers excellent sailing performance. In 2021, the upper deck was renovated to provide shelter from the wind and offer panoramic views.

Ship Description:

On the middle deck, you will find the comfortably furnished dining area, lounge, and bar. Outside, there is a large deck where you can relax and enjoy the views. If the weather turns bad, you can move to the upper deck in the new lounge, which offers comfortable seating and unobstructed views.

Cabin Description:

The Antigua features 16 comfortable cabins, each with its own bathroom with shower and toilet. All cabins are located on the lower deck. Eight cabins have two separate single beds, and eight cabins have two bunk beds. All cabins have central heating, shelving, and a porthole (closed for safety reasons). The cabins are practical, offer ample luggage space, and exude an authentic nautical atmosphere.
