The largest Danube Delta by bike and boat

Enjoy an extraordinary experience aboard a barge exploring the Danube Delta in Romania. It is the second largest delta in Europe but it is also the best preserved. It has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1990.
The mouth of the Danube is also where the Eurovelo 6 begins. During this cycling trip, you ride along canals, lagoons and lakes to contemplate the beauty of the wild nature that surrounds you. You can enjoy traditional Romanian cuisine aboard the barge watching pelicans, cormorants and egrets.

Day 1: Arrival in Bucharest
Arrival at Bucharest airport. Around 2 p.m., a shuttle bus takes you to the starting point of your cycling trip in the town of Tulcea.
Dinner and overnight on board the barge.
Day 2: Nufaru - Sfantu Gheorghe, approx. 31 km
First cycle tour along the southernmost arm of the Danube. You cross the Bestepe Hills nature reserve enjoying an exceptional panorama of the Danube. Enough to make you forget the few hills on the course. You reach the small fishing village of Murighiol. From here you cycle through a labyrinth of canals, islands and dense forests.
Return to the barge for the night.
Day 3: Sulina
Today you are driving along the central arm of the Danube. There is no road to reach Sulina. Cormorants and great white egrets accompany you during this route in the wild landscape. Here the Danube flows into the Black Sea.

Day 4: Gulf of Musura - Crisan, approx. 23 km
This cycle route along the Danube takes you to the picturesque village of Letea via Musura Bay. Take the time to visit Letea then you will have the pleasure of discovering a mysterious forest with climbing plants and lianas. The route ends in the fishing village of Crisan.

Day 5: Rest day and discovery of the flora and fauna of the Danube Delta
Your day begins with a boat ride through a maze of narrow waterways. You pass through fishing towns and discover the impressive diversity of flora and fauna.
Return to the dynamic town of Tulcea and overnight on the barge.
Day 6: On the road to the monasteries
Your cycling route in the Danube Delta invites you to discover the Ottoman Celic Dere monastery, the largest convent in Dobrogea, a historic region of Romania. Continue to the beautiful Saon Monastery and its windmill, planted among vineyards near the bank of the Danube. You are at the Ukrainian border, enjoy an incredible view.
Return to Tulcea for one night in a 4 * guest house.
Day 7: Lagoon tour to Cape Dolosman, approx. 42 km
You reach the town of Ceamurlia de Jos by bus and then discover the Cape Dolosman nature reserve. Then drive to the medieval fortress of Enisala, which overlooks the Danube. Here you enjoy a breathtaking view of the Razim Lagoon.
Overnight in Tulcea in a 4 * guest house.
Day 8: Tulcea - Bucharest
This is the end of your bike and boat trip to explore the Danube Delta. After breakfast, a bus transfer takes you to Bucharest.
