The Lot valley, from Agen to Cahors by bike


Explore the Lot valley by bike between Agen and Cahors. You can cycle through the vineyards and villages perched in the heart of Quercy. This cycling holiday offers you exceptional panoramas along the Lot river.

As you cycle through the Cahors vineyards, you will have the pleasure of visiting many medieval fortified villages.
You also take a gastronomic journey in Lot et Garonne by tasting melon from Quercy, tasting Cahors wine or even truffles. You are on the route of the Lot Valley cycle route, mainly on small roads with little traffic.

Day 1: Arrival in Agen

Arrival in Agen, where you will be met and given your itinerary and all the information you need to make the most of your stay. If you arrive earlier, you can visit the city of Agen, its vibrant city center and admire the canal bridge. It is also the opportunity to stroll along the Canal de la Garonne.

Overnight in Agen.

 

Day 2: Agen to Temple sur Lot - 59 km

After the Agen canal bridge, you will join the greenway by bike to Buzet, crossing its vineyards. Ride along the Garonne canal to the Lot river. The town of Aiguillon is on the Lot Valley cycle route. This cycling route invites you to discover the medieval bastides, the hillsides of orchards and the pretty villages to the Temple sur Lot.

Day 3: From Temple sur Lot to Villeneuve sur Lot - 30 km

The bike route of the Lot Valley takes you to the bastide of Villeneuve-sur-Lot, following small shaded roads that wind through orchards of apples and plums. You will have the opportunity to taste the Ente plum, which, once dried, becomes the famous pruneau d’Agen. Throughout your cycling route in the Lot Valley, you will cross historical bridges and discover some of the most beautiful villages in France, such as Pujols.
Dinner and overnight in Villeneuve-sur-Lot.

 

Day 4: From Villeneuve sur Lot to Puy L'Evêque - 57 km

Today you drive through plum orchards towards the medieval village of Pujols. You can make stops in the beautiful hilltop villages of Monsempron-Libos and Fumel. If you are ready to take a little detour, you will have the pleasure of seeing the Château de Bonaguil, a former 13th century fortified castle.
Your bike ride ends in Puy l'Evêque, a unique and picturesque village built on a rocky promontory overlooking the Lot.

Day 5: From Puy L’Evêque to Cahors - 57 km

You continue your journey on the Lot valley cycle route between orchards and vineyards through magnificent panoramas. You can take breaks in the medieval towns of Belaye and Luzech in the heart of Quercy.
Your day ends in the city of art and history of Cahors.

  • The Cahors market on Wednesday and Saturday morning.

Day 6: Saint-Cirq-Lapopie loop tour - 60 km

Enjoy a beautiful cycle loop towards the jewel of the Lot valley: the village of St Cirq de Lapopie. This medieval village, elected as one of the most beautiful villages in France, is perched on a cliff above the valley. It has 13 historical monuments and a charming village with narrow streets and old houses.

Day 7: End of your cycling trip in the Lot Valley

Your cycling trip ends after breakfast. You can book an extra night to enjoy a bit more this beautiful region.

Climate:

30 to 60 km per day, or 3 to 6 hours of cycling per day.

The route is partially marked; a roadbook and map reading skills are recommended.

Bicycle:

  • Rental bike: If you rent a bicycle, it will be given to you on the day of your arrival at the first hotel. At the end of the tour, you must leave the bicycle at the last accommodation and notify reception. We will arrange its return.
  • Personal bicycle: We do not recommend bicycles with small tires. Hybrid and mountain bikes are excellent. Remember to have your bicycle serviced before setting off. At the end of the tour, you will be responsible for your own bicycle.

Breakdown assistance (except for punctures, which we do not cover).

 

Luggage:
Luggage is transported by a courier or our team and is limited to one piece of luggage per person (max. 20 kg).

 

Travel documents:

You will receive travel documents with practical information by mail before your departure, as well as access to our hiking app by email. The documents include vouchers for hotels and restaurants, and luggage tags.

 

Transportation:

  • By train: Agen train station (approximately 3 hours from Paris)
  • By road: Paris is 700 km from Agen.
  • By plane: Bordeaux airport
