The Tulip Route in Holland on the Magnifique II

Discover the Netherlands by bike between Amsterdam, Haarlem, and Alkmaar, crossing the huge tulip fields! Visit the most beautiful regions of the Netherlands on this short bike and boat trip aboard the Magnifique II. Visit the beautiful city of Amsterdam and its canals and see the famous flower markets in the region.

The main points of interest on the Tulip Route :

Day 1: Amsterdam | Amsterdam - Haarlem 

Boarding and check-in on the Magnifique II at 2 p.m. Once all passengers are on board, a short cruise takes you to Haarlem, passing through a historic lock. Upon arrival, you can test your bike in the surrounding area. In the evening, take time to explore Haarlem. 

Day 2: Haarlem - Keukenhof - Haarlem - 50 km

After breakfast, you cycle to the most famous park in the world - Keukenhof. Take time to stroll there and to admire the hundreds of thousands of tulips, daffodils, hyacinths, and many others. After a long visit, you take your bike back to Haarlem through typical Dutch countryside. In Haarlem, visit the historical city center with the Grote Markt and Saint Bavo Church. 

Day 3 : Haarlem - Alkmaar - 50 km

Optional visit: morning bus tour (6.30am) of the world's largest flower auction in Aalsmeer. In the morning, millions of flowers are auctioned off and sent to all parts of the world. At 9 a.m., you return to your houseboat for a late breakfast. Later, ride your bike through the North Hollande Dune Reserve, a protected coastal landscape. Along the way, stop in the seaside of Egmond for a refreshing swim in the North Sea before continuing to Alkmaar. Your boat will be moored close to the city center, giving you the perfect opportunity to explore the charming streets of the historic center in the evening.

Day 4 : Alkmaar - Zaanse Schans | Zaanse Schans - Amsterdam - 40 km

After breakfast, you cycle to the former windmill complex of the Schermer Polder before reaching the town of De Rijp. The city is worth the visit with its wooden façades, its beautiful church, and the lock. You then cycle to the open-air museum “Zaanse Schans” with its superb windmills, traditional wooden houses, old Dutch village, cheese farm, and traditional wooden clog maker. From there, you rejoin the ship for a cruise towards Amsterdam. Upon arrival, you will have time to explore Amsterdam, visit one of the various museums, or go shopping. 

Day 5 : Amsterdam

Disembarkation after breakfast until 9:30 am: end of your trip.

Weather :

Contrary to popular belief, the temperature in the Netherlands is similar to the temperature in France. Near the coast, the weather is sometimes windy.

Technicality :

40 to 50 km of cycling per day, or about 4 to 5 hours of cycling maximum.

Accompaniment :

People responsible for your bike and boat holidays are : 
On board, the captain and his mate. They are responsible for the smooth running of the vacation on the boat, and bring the boat from stage to stage. The cook prepares the meals.
Each morning, if you wish, you can get benefit from advice on the route to follow and on additional tourist information.

Meals :

• Breakfast : on board, you will find adutch breakfast
• Lunch : after the breakfast, you will prepare by yourself a “packed lunch” from the buffet (sandwich, fruit, snack, drinks).
• Snack : after the daily route, you will find, when you arrive on the boat, various drinks such as tea and coffee prepared for your return.
• Dinner : at least three dishes. After dinner, you may take a cup of coffee or tea.

Other drinks, such as wine, beer, lemonade and mineral water, are not included but can be purchased on board at a reasonable price.

Bike :

• The bike will be fitted with panniers, a lock, and a tire repair kit. 
• If you take your own bike, it cannot be insured against theft by our company, you will have to make the necessary arrangements with your usual insurer. Do not forget your anti-theft. The return of your bike will be at your expense.

Transport : 

• By train : the departure towns for the bike and boat tours are served by the railway. Amsterdam train station is very well connected : several trains daily run to and from France. Thalys is faster.
• By plane : Amsterdam international airport.

Your vehicle : 

We strongly advise against parking cars on the streets of Amsterdam. Information on guarded parking lots in the city can be found on the following website : parkingcentrumoosterdok.nl.
