The Canal des 2 mers by bike

Another popular cycling route passes through Gironde, the Canal des 2 Mers. This brings together the royal Canal du Midi and its little brother, the Canal de la Garonne. Along these two canals and the Gironde estuary, you can go from Royan to Sète by bike (and vice versa). Signposted, you pedal mainly on quality cycle paths and towpaths with special charm.

The course is of an incredible cultural and heritage richness. Culinary specialties and local wines will delight the most greedy. The towns crossed are full of treasures:

  • Bordeaux, capital of wine, is well worth a stroll along the quayside or in the city center
  • Toulouse, the pink city, is welcoming with its Place du Capitole, its lively center and the banks of the Garonne
  • Carcassonne and its medieval city are worth visiting at least once in your life
