The Southern Route: Bike Cruise from Amsterdam

South Holland by bike and boat

This bike and boat tour takes you south of Amsterdam and introduces you to the province of South Holland. This region is located on the west coast of the Netherlands. There are many "polders" there, these stretches of land located below sea level and protected by imposing dikes.

The province has been at the heart of the history of the Netherlands and there is an important heritage and cultural heritage. Today, the region is very rich and dynamic and there is an astonishing, but rather successful mix between modernism and traditions. Here is an overview of the program:

  • The Hague is the seat of the Dutch government (although the national capital is Amsterdam) and there are countless historical monuments.
  • Rotterdam is the very example of a mix between modernity and old. It is a major port with an international dimension. The architecture is confusing, between its skyscrapers, its Erasmus Bridge and its picturesque neighborhoods with old-world charm.
  • Delft welcomes you with its churches, mansions, interior courtyards, its Royal House ... discover the glorious past of the city famous for its porcelain as you stroll along the canals. The many pubs in this university town are also an opportunity to try out the local gastronomy and taste a few beers!
  • Kinderdijk is an open-air museum. The site is a UNESCO World Heritage Site with its traditional mills. It is one of the most photographed places in the country.
  • The Dutch cheese capital, Gouda, is worth a visit. This historic city with its emblematic town hall or the stained glass windows of the Church of Saint John is very trendy. There is the first “fair trade” street in a lively city center where it is good to walk.

The incomparable cycling network is a major asset of this circuit. Whether you are in the countryside, in the middle of fields, along the canals or in the city, you pedal in complete safety!
