Danube bike cruise between Passau and Budapest on the Primadonna



The most popular river cruise is undoubtedly the one from Passau to Budapest on the Danube by bike. The romantic narrow valleys, beautiful vineyards and expanses of the Hungarian plains are unforgettable experiences on this bike cruise. You can admire abbeys, castles and palaces as well as the 3 beautiful cities of Vienna, Bratislava and Budapest.

Day 1: Passau


Arrival at the secure car park before 4 p.m. or at Passau station before 4:45 p.m. Bus transfer from the car park or train station is available at an additional cost. A welcome drink is offered from 4 p.m. The captain welcomes you at dinner time.



Day 2: Schlögen - Linz. 55 km


Pick up of rental bikes in Schlögen in the morning. The route begins with the valley near Kaiserau. You take the direction of Ottensheim to Linz, European cultural capital in 2009.


Day 3: Tulln - Vienna. 36 or 52 km


The day begins with a visit to the museum dedicated to Egon Schiele (option included). You can enjoy the many public gardens in Tulln (65), nicknamed the city of flowers. You then take a cycle path that offers a magnificent view of the Viennese countryside. On the route, the Österreichischer Escorial (monastery and former royal palace) in Klosterneuburg is your last stop before Vienna. You are free to visit Vienna (95% route on cycle paths). After dinner, at 8:30 p.m., a bus tour takes you around Vienna by night.


Day 4: Sturovo - Esztergom - Budapest. 59 km


This stage begins by cycling along the Danube on cycle paths to Szob, where you will take the ferry. You'll pass through Visegrad and Vac. Then the ferry will take you to the island of Szentendre and its artists' village. Take the train back to Budapest.


Day 5: Visit of Budapest (free) and / or excursion to Margaret Insel Island. 22 km

In the morning, a bus tour of Budapest is offered directly from the boat (3h30 with 1h30 of free visit in the city center, option included). In the afternoon, possibility of doing an 8 km cycle loop on Margareten Island in Budapest.


Day 6: Visit of Bratislava and loop to Devin. 33 ou 48 km


Guided tour in the historic center of Bratislava (option included). You then take the trails along the Danube to Devin and its national memorial of Slovakia. You then take the brand new cycle bridge to cross into Austria and enjoy the magnificent palace of Empress Maria Theresa: the Schloss Hof with its baroque gardens. Return to Bratislava.


Day 7: Krems - Pöchlarn. 48 km


You take a cycle path that runs along the Danube and passes through the Wachau Valley (UNESCO listed). Another crossing point before arriving in Pöchlarn is Melk and its monastery.


Day 8: Passau


Arrival in Passau around 8 am. After breakfast (around 9 a.m.), the bus takes you to the station or to the car park (if booked).
