EuroVelo 1 is a cycle route that crosses Europe from north to south. It passes through seven different countries: Norway, the United Kingdom, Ireland, France, Spain, and Portugal. The route is nicknamed the Atlantic Cycle Route, since, as can be seen on the EuroVelo 1 map, a large portion of it runs along the Atlantic coast.
The French section is called the Vélodyssée and is fully completed and signposted. This is not the case in other countries where the progress of the project is very uneven.
The quality of this signage and the cycle paths make it a very popular route, ranking first in terms of traffic, ahead of the Loire à Vélo route. This is a remarkable achievement, since the Loire à Vélo route was created in 1996! On the Vélodyssée, we have developed several routes for excellent cycling trips:
If you're interested in doing the Vélodyssée, you should know that there are many stages in common with other cycling routes.
