Belgium is an ideal destination for cyclists of all levels. Also known as "the flat country," Belgium boasts one of the best cycling networks in Europe. You can therefore visit cities with rich heritage and discover a thriving and diverse culture with complete peace of mind.
Depending on where you are in Belgium, the cycling network has a different name. In Wallonia, greenways and cycle routes are grouped under the acronym RAVeL (Réseau Autonome des Voies Lentes – Autonomous Network of Slow Routes). This is a public service managed by the Walloon Region.
In Flanders (and the Netherlands), long-distance cycle routes are called LF-routes and are numbered. The North Sea Route, for example, is LF1.
Belgium is unified in terms of its numbered junctions, or knooppunten in Dutch. This signage, found at every intersection of cycle paths, is deployed in both Flanders and Wallonia. In terms of cycle path density, Belgium ranks in the top three European countries, along with the Netherlands and Denmark.
Thanks to its dense and well-designed cycle network, it's easier to plan a cycling trip accessible to everyone. Short or long distances, anything is possible! Add to that virtually no elevation gain wherever you go, and you have the perfect cycling holiday in Belgium!
Cycling in Belgium is like taking a magical break where culture unfolds at your own pace. Between two cycle paths, let yourself be charmed by the elegance of the art cities with their centuries-old belfries. Along the way, this unique way of life is best enjoyed with conviviality: succumb to famous chocolates, fragrant waffles, and distinctive craft beers. A delightful and authentic cycling trip, where the gentle landscapes foster a sense of sharing.
Flanders by bike unfolds like a thread of history between Brussels, Leuven, Mechelen, Ghent, and Bruges. The route alternates between country lanes, the banks of the Dyle, Rupel, and Scheldt rivers, medieval squares, belfries, Flemish facades, and gourmet stops for beer or chocolate. An ideal trip to connect Belgium's major art cities without sacrificing the tranquility of the verdant landscapes.

Cycling in Bruges offers the charm of a star-shaped itinerary: settle in the heart of the Venice of the North, then each day opens up a new escape to the polders, the poplar-lined canals, Damme, Oostkerke, Sluis, the Zwin nature reserve, or the beaches of Knokke, De Haan, and Ostend. Between medieval heritage, Flemish castles, and the Belle Époque atmosphere of the coast, this gentle format is perfect for a first-time exploration of Belgium by bike.
Cycling in Wallonia reveals another side of Belgium: hillier, more rural, but always accessible thanks to slow lanes, towpaths, and routes like EuroVelo 19 along the Meuse River. From Rochefort, the loop continues to Durbuy, Namur, and Dinant, crosses the Famenne and Condroz regions, skirts the Han Caves, the Annevoie Gardens, the castles of Modave, Walzin, and Vêves, and lingers in beautiful villages like Ny, Wéris, Celles, and Furfooz.
Cycling from Amsterdam to Bruges is the perfect gentle journey through the Netherlands, Zeeland, and Flanders. From Amsterdam's listed canals, the route leads to Gouda, Dordrecht, the Kinderdijk windmills, the Biesbosch National Park, Willemstad, Zierikzee, Middelburg, and then the Belgian border via Sluis and Damme. This Bruges-Amsterdam cycle route encapsulates everything we love about the Netherlands and Belgium: polders, dikes, port villages, nature reserves, ferries, historic cities, and a magnificent arrival in Bruges, the medieval pearl of Flanders. The route can be cycled in either direction!
This Amsterdam-Brussels cycle route offers a more urban and heritage-focused perspective on the cross-border journey. After the Dutch Green Heartland, Gouda, Kinderdijk, and the Biesbosch forest, the route descends towards Bergen op Zoom before crossing the border near Huybergen. Belgium then unfolds via Antwerp, the banks of the Scheldt River, Mechelen, Leuven, and Brabant, leading to the hills and Sonian Forest before Brussels. A wonderful alternative for connecting two European capitals while enjoying major Flemish cities.
